With a Crossbred Performance Brake Conversion Kit you can adapt late model Subaru rotors and callipers to 1980-94 L Series Subarus, including Vortex and Brumby. The conversion is compatible with 1800cc Subaru''s that have a 4x140mm PCD wheel stud pattern.

EASE OF INSTALLATION The Crossbred Performance Brake Conversion kit is a ‘bolt on product’ not requiring any welding of brake or suspension components by the installer only minor drilling is required. Comprehensive fitting instructions are included with all kits. QUALITY MANUFACTURE The hubs, backing plate adaptor and brake line kits are designed and manufactured in Australia using the highest quality materials. NEW STUD PATTERN Going from a 4 stud to a 5 stud pattern the opportunities are endless. You can now upgrade your wheels with late model Subaru alloys, eg WRX etc or a plethora of aftermarket wheels whereas 4x140 PCD mags & aftermarket wheels are hard to come by and usually very dated.

PLEASE NOTE: The Crossbred Performance Brake Conversion Kit is for ''off road use only''. If you wish to install it for street use you must obtain Engineers approval and register it as a modification with the relevant road traffic Authority in your City, State or Territory.

Using the Crossbred Performance Kit and above parts, some drilling and filing to fit backing plates and Handbrake cables. Templates provided for easy positioning & install of handbrake levers. With these arms bolted into your vehicle and Liberty/Impreza ball joints installed it is now possible to fit a Liberty/Impreza steering knuckle & Impreza with twin piston callipers and discs.

What else do I need for my installation?

In addition to the kit you will be required to supply a few bits and pieces as detailed below:

  • Gen 1 Liberty hand brake cables & handbrake cable clamp/stay bracket.
  • Front Control Arms from L Series or MY depending on kit purchased
  • Changeover - Gen 1 Liberty rear backing plates, can be from 2 or 4WD (non ABS). Changeovers from ABS vehicles will not be accepted as they do not fit with the brake kits. If you have ABS backing plates you will need to organise your own modification.
  • Tie rod ends (Both models use standard tie rods with MY tie rod ends.).
  • Gen 1 Impreza or Liberty front steering knuckle
  • Impreza front strut or Liberty front strut with Impreza spring and upper spring seat. Impreza spring seat is essential for clearance as it is smaller than the Liberty one. (MY must use Impreza top spring seat and spring, apparently L Series can get away with a Liberty spring and Upper Spring Seat but I have not verified this.)
  • Liberty ball joints (can be supplied at an extra cost)
  • Gen 1 vented or solid rear discs and callipers and Twin Piston, front callipers & disks. Rears can be from 2 or 4WD.
  • L-Series use a TN Magna Handbrake lever – available in various colours.
  • MY use an 1984-87 Honda Civic Hatch hand brake lever
  • L Series use Liberty front drive shafts. MY use 22 spline MY shafts with Liberty outer CV. CV’s available.
  • Brake master cylinder from an early Liberty or Impreza

Change-over Policy

The Crossbred Performance Brake Conversion Kit requires Change-overs for the Control Arms & Backing Plates. Changeovers must be in good condition.

  • It is your responsibility to pay for the delivery of Change-over parts.
  • Make sure you include your details with the Change-overs
  • We reserve the right to reject any Change-overs that are not in good condition and will ask you to organise pick up or pay for return postage
  • The Kit will not be sent until Change-overs & payment are received. If you wish to speed up the process you may elect to pay a deposit and send your Change-overs at a later date. This way the kit can be sent as soon as the deposit & payment for the kit is received. You will be refunded your deposit on receipt of the Change-over parts provided they are in acceptable condition. If they are not in acceptable condition you will forgo your deposit until such time as you provide adequate replacements.
  • Change-over deposits are based on the full retail price.
  • If you are unsure if your Change-overs are acceptable please send me some detailed photos.
  • You will not receive your own Change-over parts in the kits due to the time it takes to perform the modifications. If you would prefer your own parts returned you will need to make special arrangements to do so.
  • Your own Change-overs may be used if your Change-overs are not of a high enough standard to be swapped. This will result in a much longer delivery time frame and possibly an additional handling fee.
